Most people probably associate the name Sazerac with whiskey and with a drink often referred to as the official cocktail of New Orleans. However, it also owns the Corazón brand of tequilas and has just announced the expansion of its limited edition Expresiones del Corazón.
The addition consists of three tequila expressions aged in a variety of used American whiskey barrels:
• Buffalo Trace Reposado, aged 10 1/2 months in used Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.
• Old Rip Van Winkle Añejo, aged for 23 months in used Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrels.
• Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Añejo, aged for 19 months in used Thomas H. Handy Sazerac whiskey barrels, the most limited in the collection.
Expresiones del Corazón 2016 also includes Artisanal Blanco, held for 60 days in stainless steel. It was used as the base for the other tequilas in the range.
“The combination of the Artisanal Blanco with these flavorful barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery has resulted in three one-of-a-kind tequilas, including this year’s addition of Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Añejo, which we’re thrilled to share,” Megan Hurtuk, marketing manager for Tequila at Sazerac, said in a prepared statement.
Corazón (Spanish for 'heart") is produced at the Casa San Matías Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. All of the Expresiones del Corazón are bottled at 40% abv (80 proof). They are available at suggested retail prices from $59.99 to $79.99, depending on the expression.
