Bradley's to live on ... under some name

OK, so the name Bradley's Tavern may be gone, but its essence apparently is not.

The longtime watering hole at 28 4th Street in downtown Troy, which owner Gary Bradley closed at the end of summer then recently sold to Vic Christopher and Heather LaVine, was going to undergo a revamping under the new owners. At least that's what Christopher thought.

Now, following a successful pop-up drinking session with lots of former Bradley's patrons during last Sunday's Victorian Stroll, Christopher says he will reopen the bar with as few changes as possible.

In an interview with the Times Union, Christopher said, “I didn’t realize that this bar means so many things to so many people, and to keep it closed is doing them a disservice.”

The tavern operated as Dempsey's Grill for four decades, then about 17 as Bradley's. Christopher told the TU he and wife-business partner LaVine may not be able to revive it under the name Bradley’s Tavern for legal reasons.
