15 Days of Holiday Drinks (Day 3)

screen-shot-2016-12-08-at-2-08-14-am• Each year, I offer readers a lineup of cocktail creations for the holiday season, culled from combing through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

The Asian lunar new year won’t come around until January 28, but you don’t have to wait to celebrate it with a seasonally-appropriate cocktail.

I found this particular recipe on the About website while searching for Asian-American adult beverage favorites. It’s a simple recipe, easy to make quickly for a large number of people.

RED LOTUS

1½ ounce vodka
1½ ounce Lichido (lychee) liqueur
1 ounce cranberry juice
lychees

Pour the vodka, Lichido and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker partially filled with ice. Shake well, then strain into a chilled old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with several peeled lychees on a skewer.

And, if you can find one at a florist or Asian good stores, add a lotus blossom to the garnish which will underscore the name.
