15 Days of Holiday Drinks (Day 2)

Screen shot 2015-12-14 at 1.14.18 AM• Each year, I offer readers a lineup of cocktail creations for the holiday season, culled from combing through all sorts of sources -- my own archives, bar books, distillers' ideas, etc. -- even press releases from breathless PR people seeking to get their clients' products mentioned.

Conjure up the name “Anthony Weiner” and what do you get?

Liar, pervert, disgraced congressman from New York City, email problem for his wife, the Hillary Clinton acolyte Huma Abedin … In other words, nothing good.

During some of his self-exposing (in so many ways) sexting that came to light a few years back and then again this year, it was revealed that Weiner sometimes used the pseudonym “Carlos Danger.” I know, it’s pathetic, but we might as well have more fun with the whole situation than he had. A bistro called Buttermilk Channel, located at 524 Court Street in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens neighborhood, certainly did when it created a new cocktail called …

THE CARLOS DANGER

2 ounces mezcal
½ ounce grapefruit juice
½ ounce honey syrup
½ ounce fresh lime juice
Campari

Combine all ingredients but the Campari, shake vigorously in a shaker with fresh ice cubes. Serve with grapefruit juice and a sugared rim, with a small float of Campari for color.
